Weight Loss Injections – Update (April 2026)

Weight Loss Injections – Update (April 2026)

South West London ICB has now provided guidance regarding eligibility for NHS weight loss injections.

Letter for non eligible patients

We have contacted all patients who are currently eligible under the NHS criteria.
If you have not been contacted, unfortunately you are not eligible at this time under current NHS guidelines.

South West London ICB has provided the following statement for patients who are not eligible:

For Patients Who Are Not Eligible

Please do not contact the surgery regarding weight loss injections, as we are currently unable to prescribe these medications.

If and when prescribing becomes available through general practice, they will be offered strictly to patients with the highest medical need in line with NHS criteria. This may mean that many patients will not qualify.

We will keep this page updated with any new information.

What We Can Offer Right Now

The NHS has announced that a new weight-loss injection called Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is now available to support people living with obesity. Other similar medications include:

  • Wegovy (semaglutide)

  • Saxenda (liraglutide)

We understand there has been significant interest, and we have received many enquiries.

At Fairhill Medical Practice, we recognise how important weight management is for your overall health.

We are already prescribing Mounjaro (tirzepatide) to our eligible patients within our surgery. However, if you have not been contacted, then unfortunately you are not currently eligible under the current NHS prescribing criteria.

That said, we can still support you with your weight management journey. We can offer advice on healthy lifestyle changes, including diet and physical activity, and where appropriate, we can refer you to local weight management services or arrange support from our in-house team such as our dietician or lifestyle coach:

NHS Health Checks

These include weight management advice and screening for related health conditions.

You do not need to see a GP first to book with these clinicians.
Please contact reception directly and our team will arrange an appointment.

What Is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a weekly injection designed to support weight loss. It works by helping you feel fuller for longer, reducing appetite and food intake.

In clinical trials, some patients lost up to 20% of their body weight.

When Will It Be Available?

The NHS has outlined a long-term rollout plan for Mounjaro. However, national implementation will take time — potentially up to 12 years — to ensure services can safely manage demand.

When available locally, it will be prescribed through specialist weight management services and prioritised for those with the highest clinical need.
